Product Overview

 

Silicon carbide has two main crystal structures, namely cubic β-SiC and hexagonal-SiC. The basic structural unit of silicon carbide crystal is SiC and CSi tetrahedrons interspersed with each other. The tetrahedrons share the same edges to form a plane layer, and are connected with the next stacked tetrahedrons to form a three-dimensional structure. Because the tetrahedral stacking order can form different structures, hundreds of variants have been found. Generally, the letters C (cubic), H (hexagonal), and R (rhombic) are used to indicate the lattice type, and the number of layers contained in the unit cell is used to indicate the difference. For example, nH indicates that there are n layers of repeating periods along the c axis. The hexagonal structure of, and mR represents a rhombohedral structure with m layers of repeating periods along the c axis.

Product features

 

The high hardness of the silicon carbide ceramic tube is because the hardness of the silicon carbide is quite high, the Mohs notch hardness is 9.2, and the Kjeldahl microhardness is 2200~2800kg/mm2 (load 100g).

And although the hot hardness of silicon carbide decreases with increasing temperature, the compressive strength of silicon carbide is 224MPa, and the flexural strength of silicon carbide is 15.5MPa.

Silicon carbide is synthesized at high temperature, so silicon carbide ceramic tubes are mostly prepared at high temperature or used at high temperature.

 

Applications

 
This product has been widely used in polysilicon reduction furnaces, military manufacturing, aviation, and power.

The average thermal expansion coefficient of silicon carbide can be 4.4×10-6/℃ in the range of 25~1400℃. The measurement results of the thermal expansion coefficient of silicon carbide show that its value is much smaller than other abrasives and high-temperature materials. For example, the thermal expansion coefficient of corundum can be as high as (7~8)×10-6/℃. The thermal conductivity of SiC is very high, which is another important feature of the physical properties of silicon carbide ceramic tubes.

Its thermal conductivity is much larger than other refractory materials and abrasives, about 4 times the thermal conductivity of corundum. Therefore, silicon carbide has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity, so the silicon carbide ceramic tube receives less thermal stress during the heating and cooling process, which is why the silicon carbide ceramic tube has particularly good thermal shock resistance.
