Vertical axis wind turbine is a kind of wind turbine. Its main rotor shaft is set vertically, and the main components are located at the bottom of the turbine. The torque problem was solved by later design with providing helical torsion in the blades. VAWT tilts sideways and its axis is perpendicular to the air flow line, with similar functions. A more general term that includes this option is "horizontal axis wind turbine".
