The fundamental concept behind a permanent magnet generator lies in the rotor, which is equipped with permanent magnet materials to create a steady magnetic field. This magnetic field remains constant as it is generated by the magnets embedded in the rotor.
When a prime mover—such as a wind turbine, water turbine, or an engine—causes the rotor to spin, this rotating magnetic field moves past the conductors located within the stator windings. The motion of the magnetic field relative to these conductors is essential for energy conversion.
Based on the law of electromagnetic induction, the movement of the magnetic field across the stator windings induces an electromotive force within them. This induced voltage can drive current if an external electrical circuit is connected to the generator, thereby producing usable electrical power.
