The fundamental concept behind a permanent magnet generator involves the rotor being equipped with permanent magnet materials that produce a steady magnetic field. This constant magnetic field is a key feature that differentiates it from other types of generators.
When the rotor is set into motion by a prime mover—which could be a wind turbine, water turbine, or engine—the magnetic field created by the permanent magnets rotates along with the rotor. As this magnetic field moves, it interacts with the conductors located in the stator windings.
According to the law of electromagnetic induction, this motion causes a change in magnetic flux through the stator conductors, which induces an electromotive force (EMF) within the windings. Consequently, if the stator windings are connected to an external electrical circuit, the generator will supply electrical energy to that circuit.
