Key characteristics and functions of conventional heat detectors include:

 

Heat Sensing Technology:
Fixed Temperature Heat Detectors: These detectors are designed to activate when the ambient temperature reaches a pre-determined fixed threshold.


Rate-of-Rise Heat Detectors: These detectors monitor the rate of temperature increase and activate when the temperature rises at a rapid rate, typically 15°F to 20°F (8°C to 11°C) per minute.

When the detector's heat sensing element reaches the predetermined threshold, the heat detector sends a signal to the fire alarm control panel, which then activates the overall fire alarm system, including audible and visual notification devices.
