Derrick Hoisting System (Overhead Load-Bearing Hoisting Assembly)
The workover rig derrick is a truck-mounted foldable telescopic derrick. Unlike the fixed derricks of drilling rigs, it can automatically raise, fold, and retract without crane assistance, making it the signature core structure of the workover rig.
1. Two-Section / Three-Section Telescopic Derrick Main Body
It adopts a high-strength manganese steel truss structure — lightweight, high-strength, wind-load resistant, and deformation resistant. It comprises the upper derrick section, lower derrick section, telescopic slide rails, guide sliders, and limit locking blocks.
During operations, it is hydraulically raised and extended section by section, forming a vertical overhead working passage; when relocating, it automatically retracts, folds, and lies against the vehicle body — compact in size and compliant for transport.
Function: suspends the crown block, carries the hook load, and provides the vertical running track for running/pulling tubing, sucker rods, and downhole tools, bearing the full weight of the string and operational impact loads.
2. Hydraulic Lifting Cylinder
A large-tonnage double-acting hydraulic lifting cylinder, with buffering, self-locking, and overload protection, responsible for raising, lowering, and telescoping the entire derrick — smooth in action, impact-free, safe, and reliable.
3. Crown Block Assembly
Fixedly installed at the very top of the derrick, it is a fixed sheave assembly, composed of sheaves, sheave shafts, bearings, dust guards, and the frame.
Function: redirects the tension direction of the wire rope and, together with the traveling block, forms the block multiplication system, amplifying the hoisting force and bearing the maximum static and dynamic loads of workover operations.
4. Derrick Locking Mechanism and Limit Devices
Includes mechanical pin locks, hydraulic auto-locks, upper limit switches, lower limit switches, and over-extension limit switches. They prevent the derrick from over-traveling, falling off, or retracting unintentionally, ensuring the structural safety of overhead operations.
5. Derrick Operating Platform, Work Platform, and Guardrails
Non-slip working platforms, safety guardrails, and ladders are configured at the middle and top of the derrick for personnel to perform overhead inspections, reeve the hoisting lines, maintain the crown block, and service equipment — meeting standardized safe construction requirements.
