Drawworks Hoisting System (Core Power Hoisting Assembly of the Workover Rig)

The drawworks is the core component of workover operations that does the most work and is used most frequently, undertaking all heavy-load operations including running/pulling tubing, sucker rods, fishing tools, milling tools, lifting fish (lost tools), jarring for stuck-pipe release, and suspending strings.

1. Drawworks Drum Main Body

A large one-piece cast-steel drum with deep-grooved non-slip wire rope grooves on the surface, preventing rope crossover, jumping out of grooves, and squeezing deformation. The drum has thick walls, impact resistance, and fatigue resistance, remaining free of cracking and deformation under long-term alternating tension.

2. Main Brake System (Band Brake / Disc Brake)

The core safety braking device of the workover rig. The frequent start-stop, heavy-load lowering, and suspension locking during operations all rely on the main brake. Through the brake band, brake linings (brake shoes), brake cylinders, and lever mechanism gripping the drum, it achieves smooth deceleration, braking, and locking, controlling the lowering speed of the string and preventing major accidents such as runaways, dropped strings, and flying blocks.

3. Auxiliary Brake (Water Brake, Eddy-Current Brake, Hydraulic Auxiliary Brake)

The auxiliary brake is used for uniform lowering under heavy load, consuming the gravitational potential energy during lowering, reducing wear on the main brake, and achieving soft braking and steady lowering. It is an essential safety device for deep-well major workover and long-string lowering, effectively preventing brake overheating failure.

4. Clutch Assembly (Friction Plate Clutch, Pneumatic Clutch)

Responsible for power engagement and disconnection, controlling the start and stop of the drawworks. It engages smoothly, disengages completely, and is resistant to high temperature and wear, adapting to frequent start-stop conditions. It is a key component for drawworks power control.

5. Traveling System (Traveling Block, Hook, Wire Rope)

Traveling Block: A movable sheave assembly that moves up and down with the wire rope, working with the crown block to achieve multiple-line hoisting.

Workover Hook: Carries and suspends all downhole strings and tools, featuring shock absorption, buffering, anti-release, and self-locking functions, adapting to complex operations such as pulling, jarring, stuck-pipe release, and fishing.

Hoisting Wire Rope: A high-strength compacted-strand wire rope specially made for oilfield use — wear-resistant, fatigue-resistant, and impact-resistant, operating repeatedly under bending and heavy load.

6. Cathead Auxiliary Winches (Front and Rear Catheads)

Divided into the front cathead and rear cathead, used for auxiliary pulling, pipe handling, pipe racking, pulling wellhead tools, assisting makeup of connections, and auxiliary lifting of small items — high-frequency components for wellhead auxiliary operations.
