Power System of Oil Drilling Equipment
The power system supplies the power source for all equipment of the entire rig and serves as the "power heart" of rig operation. Depending on the rig type, it comes in two mainstream configurations.
1. Diesel Power Unit: Mostly used in drilling scenarios without grid coverage, such as remote fields, deserts, and isolated onshore locations. It consists of multiple high-power diesel generator sets operating in parallel, providing mechanical power and electrical power to the drawworks, mud pumps, top drive, and auxiliary equipment. It delivers strong power output, strong adaptability, and independence from external power supply.
2. Electric Power Unit: Covers industrial grid power supply and variable-frequency generator sets, widely applied in urban areas, concentrated oilfield operation zones, and offshore drilling platforms. Equipped with an SCR (silicon-controlled rectifier) system and an MCC (motor control center), it converts AC power into the DC power required by the equipment and distributes power with precision. It offers the advantages of energy saving, quiet operation, easy control, and a high degree of automation. Modern intelligent rigs all adopt the variable-frequency electric drive mode.
