The DC resistance of a transformer is a mandatory test item in transformer manufacturing — for the factory tests of semi-finished and finished products, for installation, major repair, after changing the tap changer, and for handover tests and preventive tests by the power sector.
Testing the DC resistance can check the welding quality of winding joints and whether the winding has inter-turn short circuits; it can detect whether the contacts at every position of the voltage tap changer are in good condition and whether the actual tap-changer position matches the indicated position, whether the lead-out wires are broken, and whether there are broken strands in multiple parallel conductors. To meet the need for fast measurement of transformer DC resistance, this XHZ1020 20A DC Resistance Tester adopts a new power-supply technology and features small size, light weight, large output current, good repeatability, strong anti-interference capability and complete protection functions. The whole instrument is controlled by a high-speed single-chip microcomputer with a high degree of automation, an automatic discharge function and a discharge alarm. It provides high test accuracy and simple operation for the fast measurement of transformer DC resistance.
Main Functional FeaturesThis instrument is dedicated to the fast measurement of transformer winding DC resistance and to the inspection of winding and tap-changer defects. Unlike a cable fault locator that works on cables, it focuses on transformer windings, and it is especially suited to:
1. Transformer manufacturers' semi-finished and finished-product test teamsFor the mandatory factory DC resistance test of semi-finished and finished transformers, to check the welding quality of winding joints, inter-turn short circuits and the condition of the tap-changer contacts.
2. Power-sector preventive-test and overhaul teamsFor installation, major repair, tests after changing the tap changer, handover tests and preventive tests, so that broken lead-out wires, broken strands in parallel conductors and other hidden dangers can be found in time.
3. Transformer installation, commissioning and handover inspection teamsFor on-site verification at installation and handover; for the low-voltage side of large-capacity transformers the magnetic-assist method can be used to speed up measurement, and results can be printed or stored via the touch screen, printer and USB interface.

Test current: <20mA, 1A, 2.5A, 5A, 10A, 20A. Measurement range: 200μΩ–1Ω (20A), 1mΩ–2Ω (10A), 2mΩ–4Ω (5A), 5mΩ–8Ω (2.5A) and 10mΩ–20Ω (1A) at an accuracy of ±(0.2%+2 digits), plus 10Ω–20kΩ (<20mA) at ±(0.5%+2 digits). Minimum resolution is 0.1μΩ.
A 7-inch high-brightness touch colour LCD with Chinese/English switching, storage of 1000 data groups with a perpetual-calendar clock and power-off storage, a built-in micro printer, Bluetooth, RS232 and USB interfaces, automatic discharge with a discharge alarm, and control of the whole test from an Android phone or tablet through the dedicated APP.
Do not remove the test leads until the discharge indication is complete; a no-load tap-changing transformer must not be switched during measurement; after a sudden power failure wait at least 30 seconds before removing the wiring; do not short-circuit or ground the untested windings; ensure the case is reliably grounded; and if the range is exceeded, press reset and choose a smaller current range.
