Product Overview

The XHSB505 Cable Identifier is developed for high-voltage cable construction, installation and maintenance personnel who urgently need a practical solution for identifying a specific cable among many cables on site. Guided by electromagnetic field theory and adopting advanced technology together with modern electronic and tooling techniques, it provides fast and accurate cable identification.

Key Features
  • Accurate, error-free identification
  • Large identification clamp suitable for a wide range of cables
  • Extremely simple operation
  • Clear and intuitive indication
  • Portable and neat main and auxiliary parts
  • Adjustable receiver sensitivity
  • Adjustable signal frequency
Working Principle

The input AC 220 V mains supply is converted by electronic technology into the high-power special signal required for identification. This signal is applied to the cable to be identified through the connecting line. Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, a signal consistent with the transmitted signal is induced along the cable. On site, a high-sensitivity receiver clamp combined with the handheld receiver is used to test all the cables present, and the target cable (the cable carrying the applied signal) can be found accurately from the indication on the handheld receiver meter.

Technical Parameters
Item Specification
Identification method Determined by the swing direction of the meter pointer
Clamp opening Φ125 mm
Power 1.5 kVA (intermittent, instantaneous)
Signal transmit frequency Min 0.4 Hz, Max 1 Hz (adjustable range)
Operating Guide
  1. Disconnect the armor at both ends of the cable from earth. Clamp the red clip of the output line onto the core of the cable to be tested (a good phase, or the phase with higher insulation); clamp the black clip of the output line onto the grounding point or grounding stake; connect the corresponding core of that cable to the grounding point or grounding stake at the far end.
  2. Turn on the identifier power switch and select the output gear: "I" is the low gear, suitable for short cables; "II" is the high gear, suitable for long cables.
  3. After confirming the on-site cable status and that the wiring is correct, press the "Start" button.
  4. Connect the identifier receiver to the receiver clamp.
  5. Note the arrow direction of the receiver clamp — it indicates the direction of current flow (the positive direction); otherwise the meter pointer swings in the opposite direction.
  6. Clamp the receiver clamp onto the cable to be tested.
  7. Adjust the receiver sensitivity to a suitable position.
  8. The handheld receiver now shows the swing signal.

Once the transmitter and receiver are working normally, the voltage induced in the test clamp is displayed on the handheld receiver, and the pointer swing direction is the signal direction. When the adjustment knob is not moved and the red arrow on the side of the test clamp points in the same direction as the cable run, the cable whose receiver pointer deflects to the right with the largest swing is the target cable; all other cables show only a return signal, with the pointer deflecting to the left and a smaller swing.

Precautions
  • During testing, do not set the receiver sensitivity too high; a meter-pointer swing of about 20–80% is appropriate.
  • The fuse of the identifier's working power supply must not be too large — it must not exceed 6 A.
  • After the target cable has been identified, it must be test-punctured before construction to ensure safety.
  • When the receiver clamp is clamped onto the cable to be tested, make sure the clamp jaws make good contact. Dust on the jaws, gaps in contact, or loose contact will all affect signal reception.
  • If the pointer on the receiver does not swing obviously on site, check whether the receiver clamp is in good contact.
  • It is strictly forbidden to use a single wire to carry out a short-circuit test on the instrument; use the standard test resistor for testing.
  • When identifying a short-distance low-resistance cable that blows the fuse, connect the test resistor in series at the signal transmit end of the instrument.
Who It Is For

The XHSB505 is a mains-powered, high-power cable identification instrument (1.5 kVA output, Φ125 mm clamp, adjustable 0.4–1 Hz signal frequency). It is aimed at teams that identify cables on site from a mains supply and need adjustable signal frequency and the low/high output gears to match both short and long cables.

  • High-voltage cable construction, installation and maintenance crews who must confirm exactly which cable they are working on before cutting or jointing.
  • Utility and grid field teams operating in cable trenches and ducts where many cables of the same specification run together.
  • Field engineers who can connect to an on-site AC 220 V supply and need a high-power (1.5 kVA) output for difficult or longer cable runs.
  • Operators who need to tune the signal sending speed (0.4–1 Hz) to suit specific site conditions and select the low gear "I" for short cables or the high gear "II" for long cables.
  • Electrical workers who have general knowledge of using electrical equipment and instruments, as required in the manual.
After-Sales Service

The instrument comes with a one-year free warranty for quality problems from the date of purchase, and lifetime repair and technical service are provided. If you find that the instrument is not operating normally or a fault occurs, please contact us so that we can arrange the most convenient and effective solution for you. Service phone: 400-029-0829.

FAQ

Q1. How does the XHSB505 identify the target cable?
Identification is based on the swing direction of the meter pointer. When the adjustment knob is not moved and the red arrow on the side of the test clamp points in the same direction as the cable run, the cable whose receiver pointer deflects to the right with the largest swing is the target cable; all other cables show only a return signal, with the pointer deflecting to the left and a smaller swing.

Q2. What is the adjustable signal frequency for?
The new-generation identifier adds a frequency adjustment function. The frequency adjustment knob changes the sending speed of the signal, with an adjustable range from a minimum of 0.4 Hz to a maximum of 1 Hz, so the signal can be matched to the on-site conditions.

Q3. What are the "I" and "II" output gears?
The output selection switch has two gears: "I" is the low gear, suitable for short cables, and "II" is the high gear, suitable for long cables.

Q4. How should the receiver sensitivity be set?
Use the potentiometer on the underside of the handheld receiver to adjust sensitivity, so that the meter pointer swings about 20–80%. Do not set it too sensitive, to avoid slamming the meter. If the pointer swing is not obvious, check whether the receiver clamp is in good contact.

Q5. What precautions must be observed, and what is included?
After identifying the cable, test-puncture it before construction for safety; ensure good clamp jaw contact; never short-circuit test with a single wire — use the standard test resistor; if identifying a short-distance low-resistance cable blows the fuse, connect the test resistor in series at the signal transmit end; and the power fuse must not exceed 6 A. The package includes the main unit, receiver, power cord, red output line, black output line, receiver (test) clamp, test resistor, three 6 A fuses and three 20 A fuses, with a one-year free warranty and lifetime service.
