The cable fault locator uses vibration pickup and electromagnetic induction principles to determine specific cable fault locations. A high-voltage pulse generator causes flashover discharge at the fault point, generating physical phenomena that are detected by the instrument's special probe, amplified, processed, and displayed to precisely locate faults through visual and auditory feedback.

Working Principle
Acousto-magnetic Synchronization Method

This highly accurate method combines traditional acoustic measurement with electromagnetic signal detection. When high-voltage discharge occurs at the fault point, the instrument detects both sound and electromagnetic signals, using their time difference to pinpoint the fault location where the time difference is smallest.

Pure Sound Method

Used primarily for high resistance and flashover faults, this method converts acoustic signals from the discharge point into electrical signals that are amplified, filtered, and displayed. The point of greatest sound intensity indicates the fault location.

A-frame Method

For buried cable ground faults, this method uses potential difference measurements. By moving two test points (A and B) along the cable path, the fault point is identified where the potential difference becomes zero or reverses polarity.
