How It WorksThe XHWS180 uses the coulometric Karl Fischer reaction in which iodine is generated electrochemically at the anode in direct proportion to the electric charge (Faraday’s law). When a sample is injected into the electrolyte, the water it contains consumes iodine; the instrument measures the electricity used to regenerate that iodine and converts it directly into a water-content reading on the display.
An automatic electrolysis current control system adjusts the current (up to 400mA) according to the sample’s water content and slows the reaction proportionally as the endpoint approaches. This closed-loop control delivers high precision, high sensitivity and high speed, while the blank-current storage function cancels ambient moisture interference so the number shown is the true water content of the sample.
