The XHHV508-4 DC High Voltage Power Supply System is a next-generation portable cable fault testing solution that integrates a high-frequency DC power supply, external capacitor bank, and precision sphere gap into one ultra-lightweight package. Designed to fully replace traditional heavy test transformers and control boxes, this system is rated for 35kV and below cable fault impulse discharge testing and DC withstand voltage testing. At just 12kg for the main power unit — versus 70kg+ for conventional transformer-based equipment — it represents a revolutionary advance in field-portable high-voltage testing technology.

The complete system consists of three purpose-engineered components, each designed to work seamlessly together while being transportable and serviceable independently.

System Components

1. XHHV508-4 — High-Frequency DC High Voltage Power Supply

Core Unit

The heart of the system. A high-frequency switched-mode DC power supply generating 0–32kV continuously adjustable output with 320mA short-circuit current capacity. Features zero-start protection, over-current/over-voltage/over-temperature auto-protection, and a unique self-discharge circuit that automatically drains residual high voltage when output is cut. Dual 1.5-class analog meters provide real-time voltage and current monitoring.

2. XHCC-8/15 — External High-Voltage Capacitor Bank

Energy Storage

Modular capacitor bank providing configurable capacitance from 1–16μF to match different cable types and fault conditions. Stores the energy required for powerful impulse discharge during burn-through and fault pre-location. The compact enclosure (455L × 360W × 360H mm) integrates seamlessly with the XHHV508-4 power supply and XHJX-35 sphere gap.

3. XHJX-35 — Precision Adjustable Sphere Gap

Discharge Control

The gap spacing is continuously adjustable, allowing the operator to fine-tune the discharge voltage for optimal burn-through results on different cable fault types. Provides visual confirmation of discharge activity during testing.

Operation Workflow

1. Connect AC 220V power and ensure reliable grounding (ground resistance < 10Ω). 2. Turn on the power switch — the power indicator illuminates. 3. Ensure the voltage adjustment knob is fully counterclockwise (zero position) — the Start button LED will illuminate. 4. Press Start to energize — the Stop button LED illuminates, indicating high voltage is active. 5. Slowly rotate the voltage adjustment knob clockwise while monitoring the kV meter to reach the desired discharge or test voltage. 6. Adjust knob to control discharge interval — clockwise for faster, counterclockwise for slower. 7. After testing: return voltage knob to zero, press Stop, discharge the capacitor using a discharge rod, and apply a ground lead to the HV terminal. 8. Switch off power and stow all test leads.
