The Corten A weathering carbon steel coil is a high strength low alloy steel formulated with copper, chromium, nickel and phosphorus to develop a stable, self-protecting patina when exposed to atmospheric conditions. Unlike ordinary carbon steel that continues to corrode, the Corten A surface forms a dense oxide layer that slows further corrosion to a negligible rate, eliminating the need for painting in many architectural and structural applications. This makes the material an economically attractive choice for bridge girders, shipping containers, railway rolling stock, industrial facades and outdoor sculptures where long service life with minimal maintenance is required. Zhengde produces Corten A coils with precise alloy control and thermomechanical rolling to guarantee both the corrosion performance and the mechanical strength of 355 MPa minimum yield. The natural rust-brown appearance develops progressively over 18 to 36 months and can be accelerated with controlled wetting cycles for architectural projects. Thicknesses from 1.5mm to 16mm and widths from 600mm to 2000mm are available, and the material welds with matching weathering steel consumables or stainless steel electrodes for optimum joint durability.
