An intelligent crane is not merely a traditional crane equipped with a remote control or sensors. It is an integrated system with perception, analysis, decision-making, and execution capabilities, typically consisting of the following four layers:
1. Intelligent Sensing and Monitoring Layer (The "Eyes and Nerves" of the System)
* Sensor Network:
* Load Monitoring: Real-time and precise weight measurement to prevent overload.
* Positioning: Utilizes absolute encoders or laser/millimeter-wave radar to achieve centimeter-level precise positioning of the hook in three-dimensional space.
* Condition Monitoring: Monitors motor temperature, vibration, brake wear, wire rope condition, structural stress, etc.
* Anti-Collision System: Enables automatic collision avoidance with other cranes on the same runway, end trucks, or obstacles via laser or ultrasonic sensors.
* Sway Monitoring: Monitors the swing amplitude of the load.
* Vision Systems: Integrated high-definition cameras (hook cameras, panoramic cameras) provide real-time video feedback, assisting with blind-spot operations and activity recording.
2. Intelligent Control and Execution Layer (The "Brain and Cerebellum" of the System)
* Intelligent Drive System: Full variable frequency control for smooth and precise speed adjustment.
* Automatic Anti-Sway System: Automatically suppresses hook and load swing via software algorithms (input shaping or model-following) to achieve "spot-on" positioning.
* Precision Positioning System: Automatically moves the hook to preset coordinates based on position feedback.
* Automatic Operation and Path Planning: Can store and repeat a series of motion sequences (e.g., pick from Point A, move to and drop at Point B) and plan optimal paths.
* Human-Machine Interface (HMI): Modern touchscreen HMI that graphically displays all statuses, alarms, and operational controls.
3. Digital Connectivity and Data Layer (The "Circulatory System")
* Industrial Communication Modules: Support industrial Ethernet protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP for seamless integration into the factory IoT.
* Wireless Communication: Supports Wi-Fi, 4G/5G for remote monitoring, data upload, and wireless remote control.
* Data Gateway / Edge Computing Unit: Collects and processes local data, uploading it to the cloud or server.
* Remote Access and Diagnostics: Allows authorized engineers to remotely access the system to view status, diagnose faults, and even update programs.
4. Intelligent Management and Application Layer (The "Intelligent Hub")
* Crane Management System (CMS):
* Real-Time Monitoring Dashboard: Visually displays the status, position, load, and alarms of all cranes from a control room or computer.
* Job Scheduling and Logging: Records details of each operation (start/end time, operator, load, etc.), creating electronic work orders.
* Predictive Maintenance Alerts: Forecasts potential failures based on equipment operational data (e.g., motor start/stop cycles, operating hours, vibration trends), enabling proactive maintenance scheduling and shifting from reactive repair to proactive care.
* Energy Consumption Analysis: Monitors the power consumption of individual cranes, providing data for energy-saving optimization.
* Integration with Upper-Level Systems: Can exchange data with factory MES (Manufacturing Execution System), WMS (Warehouse Management System), and ERP, making the crane a key execution unit in smart factory logistics.
