A barrier gate (also known as a vehicle barrier or automatic barrier) is a channel access control device specifically designed to restrict the passage of motor vehicles through a lane. It is widely used in highway toll stations, parking lots, residential communities, and the entrances of enterprises and institutions to manage the orderly entry and exit of vehicles.
The core function of a barrier gate is to manage vehicle access permissions through an electrically raised and lowered gate arm. Its key internal components include a control system (equivalent to the brain), a drive motor (providing the lifting power), and sensors such as inductive loop detectors. When in operation, the barrier gate can automatically raise and lower its arm via wireless remote control or a parking management system (such as IC card swiping or license plate recognition). For example, when a vehicle enters, the camera recognizes the license plate and transmits the information to the control terminal; if it is a stationary vehicle, the gate opens automatically; after the vehicle passes the inductive loop detector, the gate arm automatically lowers.
