A flap barrier turnstile consists of two main cabinets with retractable "flaps" or wings, typically made of glass or acrylic. The system is integrated with a control system and various sensors. Here's a general overview of how it operates:

1.  Authorization: When a person wants to pass through, they present a valid form of identification to an integrated reader. This could be an RFID card, a biometric scan (fingerprint or facial recognition), a QR code, or a ticket.  

2.  Verification: The access control system verifies the credentials.  

3.  Opening: If the credentials are valid, the system signals the motorized flaps to retract or swing open, creating a clear path for the person to walk through.  

4.  Closing: Once the person has passed, infrared sensors detect that the lane is clear, and the flaps automatically close, preventing unauthorized "tailgating" (a person following too closely behind).  

5.  Denial: If the credentials are not valid or if an unauthorized attempt is made to enter, the flaps will remain closed and an alarm may be triggered.
