Platinum-Iridium Alloy Features

  • Excellent thermal stability with a melting point exceeding 2000°C. It does not soften at high temperatures and exhibits minimal deformation, enabling long-term stable operation in environments above 1000°C.
  • Significantly harder than pure platinum, it offers outstanding wear and scratch resistance. Compared to pure platinum rods, its service life can be extended several times over, making it suitable for applications involving frequent friction or contact.
  • Stable electrical resistivity with uniform conductivity, coupled with excellent fatigue and creep resistance. When used as electrodes, it ensures precise signal transmission and reliable long-term operation.
  • It exhibits exceptional resistance to strong acids, strong alkalis, aqua regia, and high-temperature oxidation. It does not react with most chemical media, maintaining stable performance even in corrosive environments.
  • Despite its higher hardness than pure platinum, it can be processed into rods of varying diameters and lengths through forging, drawing, and machining. This adaptability meets the custom requirements of complex precision instruments.

Platinum Iridium Alloy Rod Application

1. Aerospace: Sensor probe rods for high-temperature engine zones, valve core control rods for spacecraft propulsion systems, precision connecting rods for rocket fuel lines.

2. Electronics and Precision Instruments: Cathode support rods for vacuum tubes, electrode connecting rods for precision resistors, and hand high-precision balance weights.

3. Chemical Industry: Agitator shafts for strong acid/alkali reactors, sampling probe rods for radioactive liquids, corrosion-resistant probe rods for high-end detection equipment.

4. Medical Implants: Core rods for pacemaker electrode leads, connecting rods for dental implants, and core shafts for minimally invasive surgical instruments.

Process

① Communicate with customers regarding bar dimensions, precision requirements, surface quality, and application scenarios.

② Select the platinum-iridium ratio based on requirements and specify raw material purity (typically ≥99.95%).

③Fuse platinum and iridium metals into a homogeneous alloy via vacuum induction melting, then mold and press to form the initial billet.

④Process the ingot into a rod blank near the target diameter through hot forging, hot rolling, and annealing.

⑤Control diameter tolerance and surface roughness via cold drawing and precision external grinding.

⑥ Final heat treatment relieves cold working stresses, stabilizes dimensions and properties, and adapts the product for diverse applications.

⑦ Quality inspection and surface polishing are performed, and material certificates can be provided to customers upon request.
