The rotary kiln is a kind of rotating calcining kiln, which is mainly used for high-temperature treatment of solid materials. According to the different materials processed, it can be divided into cement kilns, metallurgical and chemical kilns, and lime kilns. The following is the introduction of various products:
Cement Industry
Cement Clinker: The cement rotary kiln is used for calcining cement clinker, enabling the raw materials to undergo a series of physical and chemical changes at high temperatures to form cement clinker with hydraulic properties. The dry-process cement kiln has the advantages of low heat consumption and high output; while the wet-process cement kiln has the characteristics of uniform raw material composition and easy control.
Metallurgical Industry
Pellets: In the ironmaking process, the rotary kiln is used to produce pellets for blast furnaces. Iron ore fines and other raw materials are made into pellets with certain strength and particle size through roasting, which can improve the grade and metallurgical properties of iron ore and is beneficial to the smooth operation of the blast furnace and the improvement of ironmaking efficiency.
Alumina: In the aluminum production process, the rotary kiln is used to roast aluminum hydroxide into alumina, providing raw materials for the subsequent aluminum electrolysis production.
Direct Reduced Iron: Abroad, methods such as the "SL/RN method" and "Krupp method" use a rotary kiln to directly reduce iron ore, reducing the iron oxides in the iron ore into metallic iron and producing direct reduced iron, which can be used as high-quality raw materials for electric arc furnace steelmaking.
Products of Magnetizing Roasting: For lean iron ore, magnetizing roasting is carried out in a rotary kiln to change the original weak magnetism of the ore into strong magnetism, which is conducive to magnetic separation and improves the recovery rate and grade of iron concentrate.
Products of Roasting of Other Metals: In non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, it can also be used for the oxidation roasting of chromium and nickel iron ore, as well as the roasting of metal ores or concentrates such as tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium to achieve the purposes of metal extraction, enrichment, and separation.
Chemical Industry
Soda: The rotary kiln can be used for the production of soda, and sodium carbonate and other soda products are obtained through the calcination treatment of relevant raw materials.
Phosphate Fertilizer: It is used for calcining phosphate fertilizers, such as the roasting of phosphate ore, which can convert the phosphorus in the phosphate ore into a form that is more easily absorbed by plants and improve the effectiveness of phosphate fertilizers.
Barium Sulfide: Through the calcination reaction of barium-containing ores and sulfur and other raw materials in a rotary kiln, barium sulfide is produced. Barium sulfide is an important chemical raw material and can be used to manufacture barium salts, pigments, rubber vulcanizing agents, etc.
Phosphoric Acid: In the 1960s, the United States invented a new process for producing phosphoric acid using a rotary kiln. This method has the advantages of low energy consumption, less electricity consumption, no need for sulfuric acid, and the ability to use medium and low-grade phosphate ores, and has been widely promoted.
Building Materials Industry
Lime: The lime kiln is used for roasting active lime and lightly burned dolomite for steel plants and ferroalloy plants. Active lime has the characteristics of high reactivity, large porosity, and low bulk density. In the steel smelting process, it can improve the fluidity of the slag, accelerate the reaction between the slag and the molten iron, and improve the quality of steel and production efficiency.
Ceramsite: The rotary kiln can be used for the production of ceramsite. Using clay, shale, fly ash, etc. as raw materials, ceramsite is made through processes such as batching, ball forming, and roasting. Ceramsite has excellent properties such as light weight, high strength, heat insulation, and sound insulation, and is widely used in building insulation, lightweight aggregate concrete, water treatment filter media, and other fields.
Refractory Materials: It is used for roasting refractory raw materials such as bauxite, magnesia, and chromite ore, making them have higher refractoriness, strength, and erosion resistance. The made refractory bricks, refractory castables, and other products can be used as the linings of high-temperature kilns, furnaces, and other equipment in the metallurgy, building materials, chemical industry, and other industries, playing the roles of heat insulation, heat preservation, and equipment protection.
Environmental Protection Field
Products of Hazardous Waste Treatment: The rotary kiln can be used for incinerating hazardous waste, such as waste mineral oil, waste organic solvents, and heavy metal-containing waste. Through high-temperature incineration, the hazardous waste is reduced in quantity and made harmless. The harmful substances in the waste are decomposed and transformed, reducing their harm to the environment. At the same time, the heat generated during the incineration process can be recycled.
Products of Garbage Incineration: It is used for garbage incineration treatment, incinerating municipal solid waste at high temperatures to reduce the volume and weight of the garbage. The heat energy generated can be used for power generation or heating, realizing the resource utilization of garbage.
