Aluminum-magnesium alloy underbody armor is the core upgrade component of the Formula Leopard 5’s off-road protection system. The factory underbody features 2mm ultra-high-strength steel skid plates (with sound-deadening foam and cushioning material), capable of handling 99% of daily road conditions. However, for serious off-road enthusiasts, the factory plates have limited protection in extreme conditions—upgrading to 5mm or 8mm aluminum-magnesium alloy plates provides comprehensive protection for the engine, battery, transmission, fuel tank, and other critical components. BYD official genuine accessories offer an 8mm thick, 5083-O aluminum alloy underbody armor kit with a 2-year warranty.
Compatible with all BYD Formula Leopard 5 trims (including Explorer/Navigator/YunNian/Smart Driving versions). According to vehicle data, the Formula Leopard 5 features a body-on-frame chassis with unique control arm openings designed to expel sand and stones while maintaining structural rigidity and stability. This product features OEM hole non-destructive installation with excellent fitment and no impact on the vehicle’s minimum ground clearance.

Installation Steps (General Reference):
Lift vehicle: Safely raise the vehicle using a lift or jack to provide working clearance
Remove OEM plates: Remove mounting bolts and take off the factory skid plates
Clean mounting surface: Remove dust and debris from underbody mounting areas
Install new plates: Align aluminum-magnesium plates with OEM holes—install in sequence (Front Cabin → Battery → Fuel Tank → Rear Motor)
Install mounting bolts: Install included bolts and torque to specifications
Check installation: Confirm all plates are securely installed with no looseness or rattling
【Professional Tips】:
Installation sequence matters: Some plates require paired installation (Front Cabin I must be installed with II)—follow OEM sequence
Old/new part numbers cannot be mixed: When replacing, old and new plates cannot be intermixed—use matching fasteners
Weight increase consideration: 8mm kit adds approx. 20kg—slightly affects fuel economy and acceleration—weigh the trade-offs
