This product is professionally designed for BYD’s professional personalized brand—the Formula Leopard 5, the brand’s first model, serving as a core safety friction component in the rear ventilated disc brake system.
As a professional manufacturing factory specializing in automotive brake system parts, our rear brake pad set strictly follows OE specifications, dedicated to providing the global aftermarket with high-safety, high-wear-resistance replacement solutions.
Rear brake pads work with rear brake discs to generate braking torque—a critical component of the vehicle's braking system. As a mid-to-large hardcore off-road NEV SUV, the Formula Leopard 5 has a substantial vehicle weight (kerb weight of 2890kg, gross weight of 3490kg) , with rear brake pads undertaking a vital auxiliary braking task. Their quality directly affects braking distance and driving safety.
Compatible with all BYD Formula Leopard 5 trims (including 2023-2025, Explorer/Navigator/YunNian/Smart Driving versions). According to vehicle specifications, the Formula Leopard 5 features ventilated disc brakes on both front and rear axles, with Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as the parking brake type .
Rear brake pads recommended inspection every 40,000-60,000 km, or per the vehicle service manual. Given the Formula Leopard 5’s heavy body weight (2890kg kerb weight), brake pad wear may be faster than in standard passenger vehicles .
Recommended to replace both left and right rear pads as a pair for balanced braking force.
If abnormal wear signs (such as disc grooving or brake noise) are found, inspect and replace brake pads promptly.
Important Safety Note:
Rear brake pad replacement involves the EPB electronic parking brake system—a diagnostic tool must be used to set the EPB to service mode (release the electronic parking brake) before replacement to avoid damaging the brake caliper. Professional technician operation recommended.
Tools Required:
Lift or jack with safety stands
Socket wrench / Impact wrench
Torque wrench
Brake caliper piston rewind tool (rotary type for EPB)
Brake cleaner
Diagnostic tool (for EPB release)
Installation Steps (General Reference):
Connect Diagnostic Tool: Use diagnostic tool to set rear EPB to "service mode"
Lift Vehicle: Raise the rear using a lift, remove rear wheels
Remove Brake Caliper: Remove caliper guide pins, remove caliper and secure to body
Remove Old Pads: Remove old brake pads and shims from caliper bracket
Push Back Caliper Piston: Use rewind tool to slowly push caliper piston back to original position
Clean Mounting Area: Clean caliper bracket and guide pins, apply high-temp grease
Install New Pads: Install new brake pads (with shims) onto caliper bracket
Reinstall Caliper: Reinstall caliper, tighten guide pins to specified torque
Reinstall Wheel: Reinstall wheel and tighten, lower vehicle
Exit Service Mode: Use diagnostic tool to exit EPB "service mode"
Brake System Bed-in: Depress brake pedal multiple times to seat pistons, confirm pedal firmness
