The half shaft assembly (also known as drive shaft, axle shaft, or CV axle) is the core component that transmits power from the differential to the driving wheels. The Formula Leopard 5 features a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout with the 5th generation DM plug-in hybrid system—the half shafts connect the front drive motor to the left and right front wheels, handling the combined output of the 210N·m electric motor and engine power while accommodating wheel steering and suspension movement. Its quality directly affects power transmission efficiency and driving safety.

Compatible with all BYD Formula Leopard 5 models (including 75km/115km range versions). According to vehicle data, the Seal 5 DM-i measures 4780×1837×1515mm with a wheelbase of 2718mm, front track of 1580mm, and rear track of 1590mm. Installation Instructions

Tools Required:

• Lift or jack with safety stands

• Socket wrench / Impact wrench

• Torque wrench

• Special axle nut socket

• Ball joint separator

 Installation Steps (General Reference):

1. Lift Vehicle: Raise the front using a lift, remove front wheels

2. Drain Transmission Fluid: Drain E-CVT fluid into clean container (if required)

3. Remove Caliper & Disc: Remove front brake caliper and secure to body, remove brake disc

4. Remove Axle Nut: Use special socket to remove the large axle nut

5. Disconnect Tie Rod & Lower Arm: Remove tie rod end and lower control arm ball joint connections

6. Remove Half Shaft: Remove the old half shaft assembly from the differential and hub

7. Compare & Confirm: Verify new part matches old in length, spline specifications, and structure

8. Install New Half Shaft: Insert splined end into differential, mount the other end to the hub

9. Pre-tighten Axle Nut: Install new axle nut, pre-tighten to specified torque

10. Reinstall Lower Arm & Tie Rod: Reconnect lower control arm ball joint and tie rod end, pre-tighten bolts

11. Reinstall Disc & Caliper: Reinstall brake disc and caliper, torque to specification

12. Reinstall Wheel: Reinstall wheel and tighten, lower vehicle

13. Torque Axle Nut: Torque axle nut to specification with vehicle on ground

14. Refill Transmission Fluid: Fill with E-CVT fluid to specified level

15. Road Test: Road test to confirm no noise or vibration
