MIL-W-22759/21 defines a 1000V, nickel-plated high strength copper alloy wire with extruded PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) insulation, rated for continuous operation from -55°C to +260°C. The specification has been transitioned to SAE International under the designation SAE AS22759/21. Our wire is manufactured to conform to the requirements of this specification.

Q: My drawing references MIL-W-22759/21 but I see AS22759/21 in supplier catalogs. Are these the same?A: Yes. MIL-W-22759 was transitioned to SAE International under the AS22759 designation. The /21 slash sheet carries forward the same technical requirements. Our wire conforms to the requirements of this specification under either designation.
Q: Why is the conductor nickel-plated rather than silver-plated?A: Nickel plating provides resistance to sulfur-containing atmospheres that degrade silver, and eliminates the risk of silver migration under electrical stress.
