Continuous rotation from the motor is transmitted through the input shaft to the globoidal cam. The cam's rib profile sequentially engages the rollers on the output turret, advancing it through one angular step. During the dwell phase, the flat portion of the cam profile seats against two adjacent rollers, mechanically locking the output in place. This cam-and-roller principle delivers indexing accuracy and rigidity that servo-only systems struggle to match without additional braking.
