Heavy-Wall SCH40 316L Stainless Steel Welded Pipe for Petrochemical
316L stainless steel welded pipe (UNS S31603) in SCH40 wall thickness is an ultra-low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic alloy produced by forming strip or plate into tubular shape and joining the longitudinal seam with automatic welding. The carbon content is capped at 0.03% to prevent chromium carbide precipitation during welding, preserving intergranular corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone without post-weld solution annealing. The 2–3% molybdenum addition delivers pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to 304 in chloride-bearing and sour petrochemical media. SCH40 wall thickness provides the pressure containment margin required for hydrocarbon transfer, process piping and utility lines in refineries and petrochemical plants, where combined internal pressure, thermal cycling and corrosive attack demand a heavier wall than SCH10 or SCH20.

SCH40 316L welded pipe is used in petrochemical process lines, hydrocarbon transfer piping, sour gas service, refinery utility headers, chemical storage tank piping, heat exchanger shells and offshore platform process systems.
Ultra-low carbon eliminates weld sensitization. No post-weld heat treatment required, reducing fabrication cost and schedule. SCH40 wall withstands higher pressure. Heavier wall provides containment margin for hydrocarbon and chemical service. Molybdenum resists sour and chloride media. 316L outperforms 304 in petrochemical environments containing H₂S and chlorides.
The pipe functions as a pressure-retaining conduit and corrosion barrier, transporting hydrocarbons, chemicals and process fluids under elevated pressure while resisting pitting and intergranular corrosion.
Store horizontally on wooden supports. Cut by abrasive saw or lathe; bevel ends for welding. Use ER316L filler wire with argon purge. Post-weld pickling restores passivation. Verify wall thickness and NDT certificates before pressure service.
Prevent carbon steel contact to avoid iron contamination. Avoid chloride-rich media above 60°C, which can cause stress corrosion cracking. Do not use hydrochloric acid cleaners. Confirm compliance with project specifications before installation.
Standard sizes ship 15–20 days after deposit. Custom diameters and wall thicknesses add 7–10 days. Ports: Qingdao, Shanghai, Tianjin.

Hexagonal bundles with steel strapping, end caps, moisture-proof wrapping, fumigated wooden pallets or crates. Labels show grade, schedule, size, heat number and length.
