What's an R1.5 PCD End Mill For?
A 1.5 mm corner radius on a diamond-tipped end mill does two things well: it strengthens the cutting edge at its most vulnerable point, and it produces a controlled fillet at the shoulder — no sharp internal corner stress risers, no hand deburring required.

Why R1.5 Matters in Production
A sharp 90° corner on an end mill is its weakest feature. Under load, that sharp intersection chips first. Once it goes, the entire cutting edge follows. By introducing a 1.5 mm radius, the stress distributes across a curved profile that handles impact and abrasive loading far better — without giving up the ability to cut a square shoulder.
Translation for the machinist: You still get a flat floor and a clean vertical wall. The corner just has a designed-in 1.5 mm fillet that makes the tool last longer and the part stronger.
