Which cartridge material is best for solvent-based paints and coatings?
Stainless steel sintered cartridges are recommended for solvent-based systems. PP cartridges may swell or degrade when exposed to strong solvents such as MEK, xylene, or similar organic compounds. For water-based coatings, PP pleated cartridges provide excellent performance and value. Always verify chemical compatibility with our technical team before specifying.
How do I handle high-viscosity fluids like heavy oils or resins?
Three strategies work individually or in combination: (1) Pre-heat the fluid to 40-60°C to reduce viscosity; (2) Select a housing with 50-100% more cartridges than the water-based sizing would suggest; (3) Use pleated cartridges that offer lower resistance per unit area. For viscosities above 500 cP, contact our engineering team for a custom configuration including possible pre-coat or body-feed optimization.
Can TL Series filters handle abrasive pigments and fillers?
Yes. For abrasive materials such as titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, or silica, we recommend stainless steel sintered cartridges which resist erosion far better than polymeric media. For very high abrasive loads, specify the housing with a wear-resistant internal coating or consider a two-stage filtration setup with a coarse pre-filter protecting the fine polishing stage.
What maintenance does the TL Series require?
Routine maintenance consists of cartridge replacement based on differential pressure monitoring and periodic O-ring inspection. The housing itself has no moving parts and requires only external cleaning. We recommend a full O-ring replacement every 12 months or 100 cartridge change cycles, whichever comes first. Keep spare O-ring kits in stock to minimize downtime.
