Silicon carbide, with the chemical formula SiC, is commonly formed through the combination of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips (with salt to produce green silicon carbide) and other raw materials. These materials are smelted in a resistance furnace at high temperatures. It is also known as electrolon sand or refractory sand.
Silicon carbide is divided into two forms: black and green silicon carbide. They are hexagonal crystals with a specific gravity of 3.20–3.25g/cm3 and mohs hardness of 9.5.
Black silicon carbide is an incredibly strong and durable abrasive material. Its crystal structure gives it remarkable resistance towards wear and deformation.
Additionally, this unique material possesses exceptional thermal conductivity, high-temperature strength, and low thermal expansion. These properties make black silicon carbide ideal for harsh chemical environments, where its high chemical stability can be put to use.
This product is made of Silicon Carbide, which is greater than or equal to 98.60%. The iron oxide content is no more than 0.37%. It has a black color and a Mohs hardness rating of 9.3. In addition, the true density is between 3.20 to 3.25g/cm3, while the bulk density is between 1.20 to 1.6g/cm3.
