Copper has a thermal conductivity of approximately 401 W/(m·K), five times that of stainless steel and 1.5 times that of aluminum.
Key components such as evaporators, condensers, heat exchange coils, beer columns, beer taps, and temperature control valves use copper to achieve rapid heat transfer, uniform temperature, and no hot spots, ensuring cooling efficiency and stable beer temperature.
Precise temperature control:
Fast heating and cooling response, suitable for temperature control throughout brewing, cooling, and insulation, preventing beer deterioration or flavor loss.
2. Hygiene and Corrosion Resistance: Ensuring Food Safety
Natural antibacterial properties:
Copper ions inhibit harmful microorganisms such as E. coli and mold, reducing the risk of beer contamination and extending shelf life.
Corrosion resistance:
Good resistance to the weakly acidic environment of beer (pH 4–5), CO₂, and water, superior to iron and aluminum.
Brass and bronze offer better wear and stress corrosion resistance, ideal for valve bodies, connectors, and pipelines in long-term contact with beer.
No harmful substance precipitation:
Complies with food contact material standards, without contaminating beer or producing peculiar smells.
3. Flavor and Quality: Improving Beer Taste
Removal of sulfur and impurities:
Copper reacts with mercaptans, hydrogen sulfide, and other off-flavor substances in wort/beer, reducing "skunky odor" and making the taste purer and mellower.
Traditional flavor enhancement:
Craft beer machines often use copper saccharification and boiling kettles, giving the beer a unique flavor and color.
4. Structure and Sealing: System Reliability
Easy machining and sealing:
Copper has good plasticity and is easy to turn, mill, and thread.
It is suitable for manufacturing high-precision threads, conical surfaces, and sealing surfaces, ensuring zero leakage in pipelines, valves, and beer taps.
Durability and fatigue resistance:
Moderate strength, vibration resistance, and fatigue resistance.
Adapts to frequent startup, shutdown, and pressure fluctuations, with a service life far longer than aluminum or iron parts.
Used for valve cores, sealing seats, high-load moving parts.
2. Core Advantages of Machining
High precision and consistency:
CNC turning / milling / grinding can achieve IT6–IT7 tolerance, meeting requirements for sealing, assembly, and flow control.
Complex structure forming:
Multi-axis machining can integrally form valve bodies, beer taps, and special-shaped heat exchange blocks, reducing assembly and improving reliability.
Excellent surface quality:
Easy to achieve Ra 0.8–Ra 1.6 finish, reducing beer residue, easy to clean, and meets food hygiene standards.
Flexible processing:
Supports turning, milling, drilling, tapping, grinding, rolling, honing, etc., suitable for all categories from simple shaft sleeves to complex valve bodies.
High material utilization:
Copper chips can be 100% recycled and remelted, reducing costs and being environmentally friendly.
3. Process Difficulties and Control Points
Easy to stick to tools:
Good plasticity of copper leads to chip adhesion, causing surface roughness and dimensional deviation.
Solutions: use large rake angle (15°–25°) carbide tools, high-pressure emulsion cooling, reasonable feed rate, avoid low-speed dry cutting.
Large thermal expansion:
Copper has a thermal expansion coefficient of about 17×10⁻⁶/℃ (1.5 times that of steel). Cutting heat easily causes dimensional drift.
Solutions: separate rough and finish machining, sufficient cooling, constant temperature between processes, online measurement compensation.
Easy deformation:
Thin-walled and slender parts deform easily during clamping and cutting.
Surface treatment: passivation, tin / nickel plating (improve corrosion resistance and appearance)
Cleaning and inspection: dimension, sealing, and pressure testing
