Independently engineered and manufactured within our corporation, the XB Series Girderless Edge Milling Machine constitutes sophisticated, high-productivity proprietary processing equipment. The equipment enjoys widespread application throughout the manufacturing domains of pressure vessels, boilers, ship construction, large-scale formwork, general mechanical components, steel structures, power engineering and chemical plants. Product Features:

 

1. Dual-Drive & Dual-Spindle Configuration
The dual-spindle setup consists of two independent driving and milling spindle assemblies mounted along the travel guideway of the XB-3 3-meter edge milling machine corresponding to its valid processing stroke. The two assemblies support independent or synchronous linkage control, facilitating separate or concurrent chamfer and end-face machining on workpieces.

For the XB-3 model fitted with dual spindles, the maximum effective one-time cutting span reaches 3 meters.


Since two travelling assemblies plus dual spindles are installed on a single guideway, the guideway must reserve extra clearance for tool retraction and individual cutting stroke when processing 3-meter-long steel plates. Consequently, the guideway is fabricated to 5.5 meters, equating to the machine’s overall outer length of 5.5 meters.

 

For thick-gauge plates requiring large chamfer angles and substantial machining stock removal where a single spindle cannot finish cutting in one pass, the complementary spindle undertakes residual margin removal to complete full machining within a single feeding cycle and avoid repeated reciprocating cutting by one unit. When simultaneous end trimming and chamfering are required, angle modification of the spindles enables one-pass forming. Double-sided bevel processing via dual-spindle operation drastically boosts productivity by eliminating cumbersome turnover and secondary clamping of oversized plates while elevating operational safety standards.

 

 

2. Workbench Electromagnetic Chuck System
Workpieces are secured via electromagnetic chucks mounted on the workbench to streamline clamping operations and reserve abundant installation allowance. Each individual chuck measures 220 mm × 400 mm (width × length), with six units longitudinally arranged to shorten the effective magnetic attraction span of the working surface.

 

3. Sectional Fully Hardened Guideways (Premium Standard Specification)
Guideway specification: 40×80×600 mm; raw material: 40CrMo alloy steel. Components undergo bulk quenching and tempering followed by high-frequency surface hardening to attain hardness ranging HRC48–50, then precision grinding for precise sectional splicing. After long-term field operation, these guideways can be detached for overhaul or renewal to recover machining precision and prolong machine service life; straightness tolerance is restricted within 0.40 mm per 3000 mm.

 

 

4. Milling Spindle Drive Motor
The spindle is driven by an upgraded 7.5 kW renowned-brand variable-frequency motor, adaptable to milling workpieces with diversified tensile strengths.

 

5. Spindle Swivel Range
Either spindle allows stepless angular adjustment covering −45° to 85°.

 

6. Milling Cutter Assembly
A heavy-duty 75° cutter head sized Φ125–Φ160 is deployed to shrink cutting contact area, restrain cutting heat generation and mitigate insert abrasion.

 

 

7. Travelling Reduction Unit
Low-noise high-torque parallel-shaft helical gear reducer with hardened tooth flank, model: FCA77/142.27-IEC90B5/YF90L-4 with variable-frequency speed regulation. An isolated coupling module connects the reducer and drive motor; this design prevents mandatory reducer maintenance triggered by motor breakdown, a common defect of conventional standard configurations.

 

8. Milling Feed Velocity
Feed speed is continuously modulated through inverter-controlled feed motor to match variations in workpiece material, plate thickness, chamfer angle and processing dimension, with standard adjustable feed range spanning 100–1000 mm/min.

 

9. Monolithic Integrated Frame Construction
An integral monolithic frame structure is adopted to upgrade the machine’s overall structural rigidity and linear precision.

 

 

10. Auxiliary Material Support Stands
In consideration of maximum 2-meter-wide square blank workpieces, each supporting frame is extended to 1.2 meters in length alongside optimized workbench width for stable steel plate bearing. The machine is outfitted with five sets of auxiliary material support brackets as standard configuration.

 

11. Manual Backstop Positioning Device
Standard mounting locates the workbench adjacent to the milling spindle unit, equipped with a manually operated stock backstop. Operators need to dismount the positioning stopper manually after workpiece clamping prior to initiating formal cutting cycles.

 

12. Electrical Component Sourcing
Approximately 95% of all electrical fittings installed on the machine are sourced from Schneider Electric.
