The Tricon is a state-of-the-art controller that provides fault tolerance through Triple-Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture. TMR integrates three isolated, parallel control systems along with extensive diagnostics into a single control system. The system uses two-out-of-three voting to ensure high-integrity, error-free, and uninterrupted process operation with no single point of failure.
The Tricon controller operates with three identical channels. Each channel independently executes the control program in parallel with the other two channels. Specialized hardware and software voting mechanisms validate and verify all digital inputs and outputs from the field, while analog inputs are processed using a mid-value selection method.
Because each channel is isolated, a failure in any single channel cannot affect the others. If a hardware fault occurs in one channel, the remaining channels override it. The faulty module can be removed and replaced while the controller remains online, ensuring continuous operation without process interruption.

Analog Output (AO) Module
Overview
The AO module receives output signals from the main processor via three channels. Data from each channel is voted internally, and a healthy channel is selected to drive up to eight analog outputs. The module features self-calibration, ongoing diagnostics, and fault monitoring to ensure reliable operation.

Redundant Channel Operation: Three-channel input with internal voting; a healthy channel drives outputs. Non-selected channels cannot drive the field. Supports operation with up to two channel failures.
Self-Monitoring & Diagnostics: Internal voltage reference for calibration and health checks. Current loopback per channel verifies signal accuracy independently of load. Continuous diagnostics deactivate faulty channels and trigger the Fault indicator and chassis alarm.
