Installation & Static Safety Guidelines
Use a Static Grounding Wrist Strap Always wear a grounded wrist strap when installing or removing modules. Static discharge can damage sensitive devices within the module. Ensure all equipment and work surfaces are grounded.
Keep Modules in Static Shielding Bags Store the module in its static shielding bag until installation. Retain the bag for future use to protect the module from electrostatic discharge.
Ground Bags Before Opening Touch the bag containing the module to grounded equipment or housing before opening to equalize electrical charges.
Handle by the Edges Avoid touching circuit boards and components directly. Always handle assemblies by the edges to minimize static exposure.
Ensure Proper Grounding of Connected Devices Verify that all devices connected to the module are properly grounded before powering the system.
Ground Test Equipment Ensure all testing tools and instruments are properly grounded before use.
Use an Antistatic Field Service Vacuum If necessary, remove dust from cards with a grounded, antistatic vacuum to prevent static damage.
Do Not Use Lead Pencils for DIP Switches Avoid setting DIP switches with lead pencils. Contact contamination can cause malfunctions on the circuit board.
Set Module Address Prior to Installation Configure the module S1 address switch before inserting it into the system.
Configure Termination Units or Modules Properly configure the Termination Unit (TU) or Termination Module (TM) to output digital signals from the DSO to connected field devices.
