ABB SPBRC300 is a Harmony Rack (HR Series) Bridge Controller used in ABB Ability™ Symphony® Plus control systems. ABB identifies the SPBRC300 as one of the HR Series BRC controllers, together with the SPBRC400 and SPBRC410. The HR Series was developed to support existing Harmony control investments while providing compatibility with multiple generations of Harmony and related I/O systems.

ABB SPBRC300 compatibility overview
Original Compatibility
ABB places SPBRC300 within the HR Series Harmony Rack controller family. The HR Series supports HR Series I/O together with previous rack generations, SD Series I/O, Block I/O and S800 I/O.

Historical Replacement
ABB's lifecycle documentation states that the earlier P-HC-BRC300 and P-HC-BRC400 Harmony Rack alternatives moved to Limited status in January 2015, with a form/fit/function replacement relationship to the newer HR Series controllers. ABB also recommends evolution from older MFP, MFC, AMM, LMM and COM controller families to BRC300 / BRC400 / BRC410, subject to the appropriate I/O processing modules and control-logic consolidation requirements.
This should be understood as an ABB-documented historical replacement/evolution path, not as a statement that every older controller can be directly exchanged with SPBRC300 without checking the existing system configuration.

Control Architecture
SPBRC300 belongs to the Harmony Rack control architecture of Symphony Plus. ABB describes Symphony Plus HR Series as a scalable control and I/O platform covering loop, unit, area, plant and interplant control applications. Its control architecture uses the INFI-Net control network, with redundant communication paths available in the system architecture.

Q1. Can SPBRC300 be used with PROFIBUS I/O?
Yes. ABB documentation specifies support for SD Series I/O, including PROFIBUS. For the PDP800 PROFIBUS interface, ABB specifies up to 2 redundant PDP800 pairs per SPBRC300 controller.
Q2. Can SPBRC300 be used in an existing Harmony / INFI 90 environment?
Yes. ABB positions the HR Series BRC controllers as the latest generation of Harmony Rack controllers and documents their use with previous rack generations and existing Harmony system investments.
Q3. What older controllers can be migrated to the BRC300 family?
ABB recommends evolution from the MFP, MFC, AMM, LMM and COM controller families to BRC300/BRC400/BRC410. For AMM, AOM, COM and LMM applications, ABB notes that appropriate I/O processing modules and consolidation of logic into the BRC may be required.
Q4. Is SPBRC300 a direct replacement for P-HC-BRC300?
ABB identifies the HR Series BRC300/BRC400 as the form/fit/function replacement for the earlier Harmony Rack P-HC-BRC300/P-HC-BRC400 alternatives, which moved to Limited status in January 2015. The exact installed configuration should still be checked before replacement.
