The Yaskawa CIMR-VU4A0009FAA is a 380-480 VAC three-phase V1000 variable frequency drive intended for compact industrial motor-control systems. It is rated for 5 HP and 8.8 A in Normal Duty operation or 4 HP and 7.2 A in Heavy Duty operation. This dual-rating structure allows the drive to serve either variable-torque applications with moderate overload demand or more demanding constant-torque machinery requiring higher short-term overload capacity.
The 5 HP Normal Duty rating is generally applicable to pumps, fans and similar loads where torque demand falls as speed decreases. The 4 HP Heavy Duty rating is more appropriate for conveyors, mixers and machinery with higher starting torque or frequent load changes. Selection must be based on the motor full-load current and actual operating profile. Choosing the drive only from the nominal motor horsepower can result in nuisance trips or insufficient overload margin.

The CIMR-VU4A0009FAA is suitable for compatible induction motors and correctly commissioned PM motors within the drive current limits. Typical applications include centrifugal pumps, ventilation fans, conveyors, packaging lines, process skids, small machine tools and material-handling systems. The drive can receive commands from its keypad, digital terminals, analog references or a serial communication network, depending on the machine design and parameter configuration.
For loads involving frequent acceleration, rapid deceleration, vertical movement or high inertia, calculate the required braking torque and duty cycle. The built-in transistor does not eliminate the need to select a compatible external braking resistor and observe the resistor duty limitation.
Before replacing an existing drive, record the complete nameplate code, software revision, control mode, motor data, acceleration and deceleration times, I/O assignments and network address. Verify whether the machine uses sinking or sourcing digital logic, external safety contacts, a braking resistor or an optional communication card. Do not copy parameters without reviewing rating-dependent values such as motor current, electronic overload settings and carrier frequency.
For a GA500 upgrade, use the official V1000-to-GA500 transition information and parameter conversion tools as engineering aids. Confirm the selected GA500 output-current rating, mounting arrangement, terminal functions and option compatibility before installation.
Adjacent V1000 models include CIMR-VU4A0007FAA with 6.9 A Normal Duty output and CIMR-VU4A0011FAA with 11.1 A Normal Duty output. CIMR-VU4A0005FAA is available for smaller 3 HP applications. Select by current and load duty rather than choosing the nearest physical frame.
