Product description

DME, also known as methyl ethRE and methoxymethane, is the simplest fatty ethre. It is a derivative of the dehydration condensation of two molecules of methanol. At room temperature, it is a colorless, non-toxic gas or compressed liquid with a slight ethre aroma. It is an important organic chemical product and chemical intermediate. DME is mainly used as a methylating agent to produce dimethyl sulfate, and can also be used to synthesize N, N-dimethylaniline, methyl acetate, acetic anhydride, ethylene dimethyl ester and ethylene; it can also be used as an alkylating agent, refrigerant, foaming agent, solvent, leaching agent, extractant,  fuel, civilian composite ethanol and a substitute for Freon aerosol. It is used in hair care, skin care, medicines and coatings as a variety of aerosol propellants. Fuel additives promoted abroad have many unique uses in the pharmaceutical, dye and pesticide industries.

Properties

DME is very stable in the air, non-corrosive, slightly toxic, and non-carcinogenic. It has good miscibility and can be miscible with most polar and non-polar organic solvents.

As an important chemical intermediate, DME undergoes an alkylation reaction with benzene in the presence of a catalyst. It reacts with carbon monoxide to produce methyl acetate; homologation reactions can also produce ethyl acetate and acetic anhydride. It reacts with carbon dioxide to produce methoxyacetic acid. It reacts with fuming sulfuric acid or sulfur trioxide to produce dimethyl sulfate. It reacts with hydrogen cyanide to produce acetonitrile.

Stability

1. Methyl ethre has methylation reaction properties. It reacts with carbon monoxide to form acetic acid or methyl acetate; reacts with carbon dioxide to form methoxyacetic acid; reacts with hydrogen cyanide to form acetonitrile. It can be chlorinated to form various chlorinated derivatives. It can form explosive mixtures when mixed with air.

4. Conditions to avoid contact: contact with air and light.

5. Polymerization hazard: No polymerization.

Applications

· Fuel:

Technology

The DME project adopts advanced methanol gas-phase catalytic dehydration technology to produce fuel-grade dimethyl ethre with a concentration of more than 99.0%. The fuel-grade DME is further separated through a lightness removal tower (using high-efficiency corrugated rolled perforated plate filler) to obtain refined  with a concentration of 99.9% and high-purity  with a concentration of 99.99%.

The chemical stability and low molecular weight of DME make it highly reactive for applications in energy and chemical processes. Its combustion reaction is represented as follows:
