Product Overview

The D17 PP waterproof vent delivers high-capacity breathing performance in a polypropylene body, making it the ideal choice for large PP chemical containers, agricultural tanks, and industrial vessels. Its 17mm mounting footprint supports an oversized ePTFE membrane that provides exceptional airflow for rapid pressure equalization in volumes from 20L to 200L. The PP housing offers excellent chemical resistance to acids, bases, and many organic solvents, and ensures seamless, permanent welding to PP container walls or caps. This vent is engineered to prevent the structural distortion, weld line cracking, and hazardous pressure accumulation that threaten large polypropylene chemical storage and transport containers.

Cause

Large PP chemical containers are used extensively for aggressive substances that HDPE cannot withstand, including certain acids, organic solvents, and high-temperature liquids. These containers experience rapid pressure changes during filling (often at elevated temperatures), ambient temperature cycles in outdoor storage, and vapor generation from reactive contents. PP has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than HDPE, meaning PP containers are more susceptible to dimensional changes with temperature, which amplifies pressure effects. A vent made of incompatible material cannot be securely welded, leading to chronic leak paths. The large air volume in these containers demands a vent with substantial airflow capacity to function effectively.

The D17 PP vent resolves these issues with a material-matched design. Its PP body welds directly to PP containers, creating a homogeneous, high-strength bond without adhesives or gaskets. The large-diameter ePTFE membrane provides the necessary high airflow to keep pace with the breathing demands of large containers, preventing vacuum lock during dispensing and pressure blow-off during filling. How It Works

The D17 PP vent operates through the passive diffusion and convective flow of gases across the ePTFE membrane. When a large PP tank is filled with hot liquid, the displaced air plus expanded vapor rapidly exits through the membrane’s billions of micropores. As the tank cools, filtered ambient air enters, preventing vacuum deformation. If the container holds a reactive chemical that generates gas, the vent continuously releases this gas, maintaining safe internal pressure. The PP body transfers welding energy efficiently, ensuring a molecular bond with the container wall that is as strong as the parent material.
