Fitness trackers and health monitoring wearables are worn 24/7—during sweaty runs, swim sessions, and while sleeping. These devices rely on acoustic transducers: a miniature magnetic buzzer or speaker for alarms and voice feedback, and sometimes a MEMS microphone for voice commands. They also require a barometric pressure sensor for accurate elevation tracking and floor counting. All these require open ports through the device housing. The adhesive ePTFE acoustic vent provides microscopic, multi-port protection in a single, easy-to-apply patch. Applied over the buzzer/speaker grille, microphone port, and barometer vent on the interior of the tracker housing, the membrane forms a complete IP68 liquid barrier. Sound from the magnetic buzzer passes through the membrane with negligible attenuation, maintaining the loud, attention-grabbing alarm tones needed for wake-up alarms and activity alerts. The barometer vent allows rapid ambient pressure equalization for real-time elevation tracking. The vent is applied over the acoustic and sensor ports on the inside surface of the tracker housing during assembly. When the buzzer activates, sound waves pass through the ePTFE membrane with minimal energy loss, radiating from the grille to alert the wearer. The barometric sensor measures ambient pressure through the membrane's gas-permeable pores, which allow rapid pressure equalization without any liquid ingress. During a swim or sweaty workout, water and sweat contact the membrane from the outside. The nanopores physically block liquid entry, while the oleophobic surface repels the oils and emulsified sunscreen, preventing any surface wetting that could block airflow. The sweat-resistant adhesive maintains a hermetic seal between the membrane and housing.
