The Surface Set Diamond Core Bit is a diamond coring tool designed for geological exploration, mineral prospecting, geotechnical investigation and rock core sampling.
Unlike an impregnated diamond bit, in which diamond particles are distributed throughout the crown matrix, a surface set core bit uses selected natural or synthetic diamonds positioned directly on the cutting surface. The exposed diamonds provide effective cutting action and reliable penetration, especially in softer and consolidated rock formations.
Brighttop Global Co., Ltd. offers different diamond grades, stone-per-carat selections, crown profiles and waterway configurations. The appropriate bit design can be selected according to rock hardness, abrasiveness, fracture conditions, drilling depth, rotational speed and flushing requirements.
Surface-set bits are generally used in softer formations, while the crown profile and diamond size can be adjusted for different ground conditions. Epiroc lists natural and synthetic diamond options together with semi-round, round, step and pilot profiles; Boart Longyear similarly notes that surface-set bits can be cost-effective in soft sedimentary rock and are available in different profiles, diamond grades and stone sizes.
