After curing, the grid cloth is embedded into the skeleton of the composite material. The existence of grids can effectively prevent or delay the propagation of microcracks. Cracks often need to change paths or cross interfaces when encountering fiber bundles, which consumes more energy. The interfacial bonding strength between resin and fibers is another important factor, as a good interface can effectively transfer loads from relatively fragile resin to high-strength fibers.
In terms of physical and chemical properties, this material exhibits advantages such as low density, non flammability, and corrosion resistance. Glass fiber itself is an inorganic material that does not burn and can withstand the erosion of most acidic and alkaline environments, but its strength may weaken over time in strong alkaline environments. Its insulation performance is good, and it does not conduct electricity or heat, which is related to its non-metallic nature and the relatively static air inside. It should be noted that under long-term ultraviolet irradiation, the surface resin of the material may age, but the properties of the fibers themselves remain stable.
