Demister Pad Description
The SS304 wire mesh demister operates on the principle of inertial impaction. As moisture-laden gas passes through the multilayered knitted mesh, the liquid droplets collide with the wire surfaces, coalesce into larger drops, and eventually drain away due to gravity.
Material: Stainless Steel 304 (SS304). Provides excellent resistance to oxidation and moderate corrosion in various industrial environments.
Diameter: 600mm. Precision-sized for medium-scale scrubbers or distillation columns.
Construction: Knitted wire mesh (interlocking loops) supported by top and bottom grids (flat bars and round bars) to ensure structural integrity under pressure.
Thickness: Standard thickness is usually 100mm to 150mm, though this can vary based on the required separation efficiency.
The Demisting Process
The working standard behind the fog eliminator is straightforward. As the wet vapour stream ascends through layers of contracting surfaces inside the weaved and creased wire network, entrained as they persistently sway each surface. The gas inside the vapour stream keeps on ascending as the heavier fluids isolated, connect and coalesce into beads inside a work. As the beads develop, so does their weight until they tumble to the base of the vessel because of gravity. Fluid aggregations would then be able to be depleted out of the base as the gas is directed through the highest point of the Vessel.
As more beads enter the cushion and gather on the wires, they develop in size, run down the cable to the base surface of the work separator and tumble from the unit. Overhead vapour is presently free of entrained fluid.

In a gas scrubber system, the demister is the final stage of treatment. Its primary roles include:
1. Gas Scrubbing & Absorption
In wet scrubbers, liquid is sprayed to neutralize contaminants. The demister sits at the top of the tower to catch the "carry-over" spray, ensuring the exiting gas is dry and the scrubbing liquid is recycled.
2. Equipment Protection
It prevents corrosive liquid droplets from reaching downstream equipment such as blowers, compressors, and turbines, significantly reducing maintenance costs and mechanical wear.
3. Environmental Compliance
By capturing entrained liquids that may contain pollutants or chemicals, the demister ensures that the exhaust gas discharged into the atmosphere meets environmental safety standards.
4. Product Recovery
In processes involving expensive solvents or chemicals, the demister captures these droplets from the vapor stream, allowing them to be returned to the process rather than being lost as waste.
