MYP cable is a heavy‑duty rubber‑sheathed, copper‑screen shielded flexible cable designed exclusively for underground coal mine service. It supplies power from the mining substation or gate road switchgear to mobile mining machines – shearers, roadheaders, AFC (armoured face conveyor) motors, and belt drives.

Copper screen shielding – reduces electromagnetic interference to nearby control and communication cables. Provides effective symmetrical fault current path.

CPE / Neoprene outer sheath – resists hydraulic oil, coal slurry, and water. Ozone and UV resistance not required (underground).

Flexible stranding – allows installation on shearer’s trailing cable handling system (cable reel or chain manager). Conductors meet Class 5 flexibility (IEC 60228).

MYP cables are intended for mobile and semi‑mobile equipment in below‑gallery coal mines, where cables are frequently coiled, dragged, and subject to mechanical impact.

Ambient temperature range: –20 °C to +65 °C (cold‑resistant version available down to –40 °C).
Do not use as a trailing cable for draglines in open‑pit mines (UV exposure would degrade rubber; use RSH‑O instead).
For voltages above 1.9/3.3 kV, a separate earth‑monitor core or pilot core is required by some mine regulations – check local approval.

Q1: What are the main differences between MYP and MY cables?
A1: Both are mining mobile rubber-sheathed flexible cables with the same rated voltage (0.38/0.66 kV or 0.66/1.14 kV). The difference is that MYP cables have a copper wire or copper tape shielding layer, while MY cables do not. The shielding layer reduces electromagnetic interference. When there are interference-sensitive devices such as frequency converters, PLCs, and communication cables underground, MYP cables should be selected. If it is only for powering ordinary motors and there are no interference issues, MY cables are sufficient. MYP cables are usually 10%~15% more expensive than MY cables.
Q2: What is the allowable operating temperature of MYP cables?
A2: Under normal operating conditions, the maximum allowable operating temperature of the conductor is 90℃. Under short-circuit conditions (lasting a maximum of 5 seconds), the conductor is allowed to reach 250℃. In daily use, ensure that the cable current carrying capacity does not exceed the value specified in GB/T 16895.15. Taking a 3×50mm² specification as an example, when laid openly in air at 25℃, the continuous current carrying capacity is approximately 160A.
Q3: Can MYP cables be used in open-pit coal mines or surface outdoor environments?
A3: No, they cannot be used as long-term outdoor cables. The outer sheath material of MYP cables is CPE (chlorinated polyethylene) or neoprene rubber, which has weak UV resistance. Long-term exposure to sunlight will cause the sheath to crack and age. For open-pit mine drag cables, RSH-O (heavy-duty open-pit mine rubber-sheathed flexible cable) or MYP-O (sheathed shielded cable for open-pit mines) should be selected. If temporary outdoor use is necessary (e.g., for maintenance, commissioning), the usage time should not exceed one week, and direct sunlight should be avoided.
