As a premium structural alloy in EN 573-3 standards, 6082 combines optimal strength, workability
and cost-efficiency for demanding engineering applications. Its balanced properties make it
particularly dominant in European transportation and industrial sectors.
Key Properties
Composition: Al-Mg-Si alloy with Mg (0.6-1.2%), Si (0.7-1.3%), and Mn/Cr for enhanced strength
Mechanical Properties
Tensile strength: ≥310 MPa (T6), ≥260 MPa (T4)
Elongation: ≥10% (T6), ≥14% (T4)
Hardness: ~95 HB (T6)
Heat Treatment: Responds well to T4 (solution) and T6 (solution+aging)
Corrosion Resistance: Moderate - requires surface protection for harsh environments
Weldability: Good, but requires post-weld heat treatment to restore strength
