The vertical steering wheel is tailored for outdoor use, providing outstanding capabilities for traversing water and excelling in climbing and overcoming obstacles. This type of steering wheel features a motor positioned vertically above the drive wheel. When paired with a drive controller, a mobile platform with a single steering wheel can initiate and halt movement, travel forwards and backwards, and navigate directionally. Configuring two or more steering wheels allows the system to achieve zero-radius turns, lateral shifts, 360° omnidirectional rotation, straight navigation, sideward movement, diagonal travel, and curved paths, enabling unrestricted movement across a two-dimensional surface.
Precision Functionality
The vertically-oriented steering wheel comprises a drive system with speed feedback, a steering mechanism, position sensors, limit switches, and a braking system, all seamlessly integrated into a sophisticated mechatronic assembly. This allows for accurate control over both speed and steering direction through refined drive management.
Ideal for Tight Spaces
Due to its vertically mounted drive motor, the unit’s height is somewhat increased. However, the absence of any cable exit limitations enables unrestricted 360° steering, making it particularly well-suited for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) tasks in tight or narrow environments.
Simple Installation
Its innovative modular design facilitates quick and easy plug-and-play setup and removal. The plug-in cable connectors are conveniently situated beneath the mounting surface, simplifying component replacement and eliminating the hassle of re-routing wires.
Superior Reliability
The unit is compatible with inAGV* drag chains that utilize high-flex cables (for power, feedback, communication, and commissioning) designed to withstand over 10 million bending cycles. HONPINE steering drive units sold more than a decade ago continue to perform reliably in operational settings today.
