The Microchip RE46C191 is a low-power, low-voltage CMOS photoelectric smoke detector Integrated Circuit (IC) designed for use in smoke detectors that comply with Underwriters Laboratory Specification UL217. With minimal external components, this circuit provides essential features for a photoelectric smoke detector, including local alarm memory, interconnect capability for up to 40 detectors, and adjustable sensitivity controls. It operates on two AA batteries and features low quiescent current consumption, making it suitable for battery-operated smoke detection systems. The device incorporates a gain-selectable photo amplifier for use with an infrared emitter/detector pair and includes an internal oscillator to minimize standby current.
