Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: The PLC is powered on, but the RUN light doesn't come on and stays in INIT state—what's wrong?
A1: This typically occurs due to power supply mismatch or firmware issues. Verify the power supply matches your regional voltage (110V AC in US/Japan, 230V AC in Europe/Australia). If the power is correct, try reloading the project with Automation Builder or using the cleanup tool to reset the software.
Q2: The physical input module's LED is on, but the value isn't updating in Automation Builder—why?
A2: By default, AC500 V3 doesn't update unused variables. Either use the variable in your program or enable "Always update variables" globally in PLC settings. This is a software configuration adjustment that doesn't require hardware changes.
Q3: I can't hot-swap an I/O module in a remote terminal unit—after replacing it, the system won't restart.
A3: Hot-swapping requires the exact same module type. Mechanical encoding prevents mismatched modules to avoid damage. Ensure the module is fully seated until it clicks. If issues persist, power cycle the terminal unit during non-critical downtime.
Q4: The PLC can't communicate with third-party devices—what's the issue?
A4: Verify protocol compatibility and settings—check baud rates for PROFIBUS DP or IP addresses for Modbus TCP. Ensure communication modules are properly seated and test with direct Ethernet connections to isolate network issues.
