Q: ATV310 models below 1.5kW don't have a built-in braking unit. Do we need to add an external braking resistor for packaging machines with frequent start/stop?
A: It depends on the start/stop frequency and load inertia. For normal intermittent start/stop (e.g., 1-2 times per minute), no external resistor is needed—the inverter's dynamic braking can meet the demand. For high-frequency start/stop (e.g., more than 3 times per minute) or large load inertia (such as the feeding roller of a packaging machine), it's recommended to match an external braking resistor to avoid delayed shutdown affecting production efficiency.
