The high-rate clarification process represents advanced sedimentation technology built upon principles of sludge coagulation, sludge recirculation, inclined-tube separation, and sludge thickening. Through optimized hydraulic and structural design, this system integrates solid-liquid separation and sludge thickening within a single treatment unit. The high-rate clarifier operates through four distinct sections:
Treatment begins with coagulant addition to raw water, where controlled mixing ensures rapid and uniform dispersion. The water then progresses to the flocculation zone, where flocculant addition promotes particle collision and formation of larger, denser flocs for enhanced settling. The sedimentation section combines pre-settling for rapid removal of large flocs with inclined-tube clarification for capturing smaller particles. Finally, clarified effluent is collected via overflow troughs and discharged from the system.
Equipped with a high-speed mixer for rapid coagulant dispersion and uniform mixing with raw water, promoting microfloc formation. Optimal coagulant dosage should be determined through jar testing based on influent water characteristics.
Features two sequential sections: a slow-speed mechanically mixed reaction zone and a plug-flow reaction zone. The system ensures thorough mixing of raw water, recirculated sludge, and coagulant aid while promoting floc growth under low-energy conditions. Critical transfer velocity must be maintained below 0.056 m/s to prevent floc damage.
Utilizes inclined-plate or inclined-tube clarifiers based on shallow-tank sedimentation theory, providing large effective settling area within compact volume. Regular cleaning or backwashing through installed flushing systems maintains long-term performance and prevents sludge accumulation.
