Product Overview
Nomay Single-Sided Polyimide Tape combines a polyimide film backing with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. Also known as PI film tape, polyimide adhesive tape or single-coated polyimide tape, it is designed for PCB solder masking, electrical insulation and protective wrapping.
The uncoated PI backing faces outward while the adhesive side bonds to the component. Supply formats include slit rolls, liner-backed rolls and custom die-cut parts.
The specifications below apply to the single-sided silicone construction. Acrylic adhesive versions require separate selection and specification confirmation.

Finished tape thickness consists of the PI backing plus its adhesive layer. A removable release liner is excluded from finished tape thickness unless specifically stated.
Backing thickness, adhesive thickness and finished tape thickness must be distinguished when agreeing on a specification.

Silicone Adhesive
The silicone construction is suitable for evaluation in temporary high-temperature masking and electrical insulation applications. Selection depends on the bonding surface, temperature profile, exposure time, adhesion and removal requirements.
Acrylic Adhesive Alternative
Acrylic PI tape may be selected for bonding or insulation applications requiring a different adhesive chemistry. Its temperature, peel adhesion and removal performance must be assessed separately. The silicone specifications on this page do not apply to an acrylic version.
For silicone-sensitive processes, request a separately evaluated non-silicone construction and specify contamination requirements.

Peel Adhesion: Nomay's stated range is 10–1000 g. The force-unit convention, specimen width and peel-test conditions must be confirmed before this range is used as an acceptance specification.

Adhesion, dielectric performance, heat resistance and removal behavior depend on the selected construction and application conditions.
Application Procedure
Step 1: Identify whether the requirement is temporary masking, electrical insulation, wrapping or component protection.
Step 2: Specify the bonding substrate, surface condition, working temperature, peak process temperature and exposure time.
Step 3: Confirm backing thickness, finished tape thickness, width, roll length and any release-liner or die-cut requirements.
Step 4: Remove dust, oil, moisture and other contamination using a cleaning method compatible with the component. Allow the surface to dry.
Step 5: Apply with uniform pressure. Avoid excessive stretching, wrinkles, trapped air and lifted edges.
Step 6: Test the selected tape on the actual assembly under the intended process conditions.
Step 7: For temporary masking, establish a suitable removal temperature, direction and speed. Check the surface after removal.

Application Scenarios
PCB Solder Masking
For masking edge connectors, gold fingers and selected no-solder areas during wave or dip soldering. Confirm adhesion, edge sealing, exposure time and removal behavior for the actual soldering process.
Battery-Tab and Busbar Insulation
For external insulation and positioning around tabs, busbars and battery-module components. Verify working voltage, edge protection, adhesion and mechanical stresses. This tape is not an internal battery separator or a thermal-runaway barrier.
Motor and Transformer Insulation
For selected coil wrapping, lead fixation and insulation tasks. Suitability depends on the complete insulation system, electrical requirements and service temperature.
Cable and Sensor Protection
For wrapping, securing or protecting selected wires, sensors and electrical components. Confirm flexibility, adhesion and compatibility with the contact materials. It is not automatically a waterproof cable-joint seal.
Custom Die-Cut Parts
Liner-backed constructions can be converted into shaped masking or insulation parts according to the customer's drawing, tolerances and assembly method.
Performance and Operating Conditions
Temperature
Confirm continuous service temperature separately from peak process temperature. A 260–300°C temperature-resistance range must be matched to a specific construction, exposure duration and application.
Peel Adhesion
Peel results depend on substrate, specimen width, peel angle, test speed, dwell time, conditioning and temperature. The stated 10–1000 g range must not be treated as g/25 mm or converted to N/25 mm without a confirmed test basis.
Electrical Insulation
Dielectric strength and breakdown voltage depend on PI backing thickness, adhesive construction and test conditions. Specify working voltage and any required breakdown-voltage test.
Removal and Residue
Clean removal depends on substrate, adhesive coating, temperature, exposure time and removal method. Residue-free removal is not guaranteed for every surface or process.
Special Performance
Standard amber PI tape is not automatically ESD-safe or conductive. Request a separately specified version if static control or another special function is required.

Choose Single-Sided PI Tape when:
One adhesive surface is needed for direct attachment.
The outward-facing PI backing provides the required masking or insulation surface.
The selected adhesive matches the substrate and process.
Choose Pure PI Film when:
No pressure-sensitive adhesive is required.
The film will be inserted, mechanically retained or laminated using a separate bonding system.
Choose Double-Sided PI Tape when:
Two surfaces need to be bonded through a PI carrier.
Adhesive is required on both sides.
Choose Acrylic or Non-Silicone PI Tape when:
The application requires a different adhesive chemistry.
Bonding, contamination and temperature requirements have been evaluated for that construction.
