1. Product Overview

Nomay Black PTFE Film Tape, also called anti-static PTFE tape or ESD PTFE tape when specified for a verified static-control configuration, is a single-sided adhesive tape using a black PTFE film backing and silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.

The backing contains no woven fiberglass reinforcement. Its PTFE working face provides a non-stick, low-friction contact surface for compatible guides, sealing equipment and industrial fixtures.

For static-sensitive applications, the selected model must be assessed against the required electrical performance and installation conditions. Black color alone does not establish conductivity, static dissipation or low charging behavior.

This product is different from brown PTFE-coated fiberglass tape and from PTFE tape supplied with a black release liner. Here, black identifies the tape body.

2. Product Construction

The construction consists of:
- Working surface and backing: Black PTFE film without woven fiberglass reinforcement.
- Adhesive layer: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on one mounting face.
- Supply format: Self-wound or liner-backed, subject to confirmation for the selected model.

For an electrically functional version, the film formulation and measured electrical behavior must be specified. The term “pure PTFE film” in this product category distinguishes a film backing from PTFE-coated cloth; it must not be interpreted as proof that a modified black film contains no pigments or functional additives.

A release liner, if supplied, protects the adhesive before installation and is removed before use. It does not establish the electrical properties of the installed tape.

The silicone adhesive must not be assumed to provide an electrically conductive path through the tape thickness.

3. Backing & Adhesive System

Black PTFE film:
The backing has no woven glass-cloth texture or fiberglass carrier. Its surface finish, flexibility and mechanical behavior depend on the selected film grade and thickness.

A fiberglass-free structure does not by itself establish cleanroom suitability, zero particle shedding or a particular surface-roughness value.

Silicone adhesive:
The adhesive attaches the tape to a suitably prepared mounting surface. Bond strength and removal behavior depend on the substrate, surface condition, pressure, temperature and service time.

For ESD applications, evaluate the exposed film surface, adhesive interface and intended connection to the equipment separately. Surface electrical behavior must not be treated as proof of conductive adhesive or reliable grounding through the mounting face.

Where silicone transfer could interfere with later painting, coating, printing or bonding, assess compatibility before selection.

4. Available Specifications

Specify the following for model review:
- Backing: Black PTFE film without fiberglass reinforcement.
- Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- Adhesive side: Single-sided.
- Color: Black; confirm matte or other surface-finish requirements.
- Thickness: State the required value and whether it refers to film thickness or finished tape thickness.
- Width: State finished width and tolerance.
- Roll length: State the required finished-roll length.
- Supply format: Roll, liner-backed roll, sheet or converted part, subject to confirmation.
- Electrical requirement: State the required measurement, acceptance range and test method.

Confirmed numerical dimensions for this black film construction are not established by the enterprise data supplied for the brown PTFE product family. Do not transfer brown-family thickness, width, length, peel or temperature ranges to this model without a matching specification.

For die-cut parts, provide the drawing, dimensional tolerances, liner requirement and part presentation. Final dimensions and performance requirements must be recorded in the approved model specification.

5. Key Features & Buyer Benefits

- Non-stick PTFE working face: Helps compatible process materials release from the equipment contact surface.
- Low-friction surface: Can reduce sliding resistance on suitable guides and contact plates.
- Fiberglass-free backing: Avoids a woven fiberglass carrier where fabric texture is undesirable.
- Single-sided adhesive construction: Allows attachment to compatible equipment surfaces.
- Black tape body: Provides a defined visual appearance without implying optical or electrical performance.
- Model-specific ESD selection: Allows electrical requirements to be assessed together with the actual installation.

The tape must not be described as universally residue-free, particle-free, electrically conductive or suitable for laser shielding. These are separate performance claims requiring relevant evidence.

6. Application Procedure

Stop and isolate the equipment before installation and allow the mounting surface to cool. Follow the machine manufacturer's maintenance and replacement instructions.

Remove old tape and loose contamination. Clean the mounting surface using a compatible method, then ensure that it is dry and free from oil, dust and release agents.

Confirm the backing, thickness, dimensions and adhesive face. Remove the liner if present. Apply even pressure and avoid wrinkles, trapped air, excessive stretching and unnecessary overlap.

For static-control use, define the intended electrical connection before installation. Do not assume that bonding the tape to a metal surface creates a discharge path through the silicone adhesive.

Measure the installed configuration using the agreed procedure before exposing sensitive items to the process. Evaluate any charging associated with unwinding, liner removal and material contact where relevant.

Trial the tape under the actual temperature, dwell time, pressure and contact conditions. Inspect adhesion, film release, wear and electrical performance as required by the application.

Confirm installation temperature, any conditioning time, storage conditions and shelf life for the selected model. Keep unused material protected from heat, sunlight and contamination.

7. Application Industries

Potential applications are concentrated in:
- Packaging and heat-sealing equipment.
- Industrial guide and contact-surface maintenance.
- Industrial tape converting.
- Electronics fixture applications where the selected model passes the required ESD evaluation.

Semiconductor processing, battery production, optical equipment and electrically rated insulation are not automatic applications for this product. Each requires its own suitability assessment and supporting model data.

8. Application Scenarios / Problems Solved

Process material sticking to equipment:
The PTFE working face can help compatible film or process material release from a guide or sealing surface. Validate release and product quality under the actual operating cycle.

Fabric texture unsuitable for a contact surface:
A film backing avoids woven fiberglass texture. Confirm the selected film finish and mechanical requirements before replacing a cloth-backed construction.

Static accumulation at a fixture:
An appropriately verified electrical configuration may be evaluated as part of the fixture's static-control design. The film properties, contact arrangement and path to ground must be assessed together.

Incorrect assumption that black means conductive:
Specify the electrical acceptance criteria independently of color. This prevents a visually suitable material from being used without the required electrical performance.

Confusion with black release-liner tape:
This product has a black working film. A different tape with a black removable liner does not necessarily have a black or electrically functional working surface.

Replacement parts with unsuitable dimensions:
Provide the actual contact geometry, clearance and drawing so that film thickness, width and part format can be reviewed together.

9. Performance & Operating Conditions

Electrical performance:
A model-specific surface-resistance value and its test conditions are required before a numerical claim is made. Identify the measured surface, electrode arrangement, test voltage, conditioning, temperature and humidity.

Surface resistance, surface resistivity, resistance to ground and through-thickness resistance are different measurements. They must not be substituted for one another or assigned interchangeable units.

Conductive, static-dissipative and low-charging behavior are also distinct. An anti-static product name alone does not define all three.

The installed system must provide the electrical behavior required by the application. Do not assume that silicone adhesive is conductive or that the tape can replace an engineered grounding arrangement.

Temperature:
Confirm continuous temperature, peak temperature and exposure duration for this black-film model. The brown PTFE product-family temperature range is not an established rating for this construction. No 300°C-for-30-minutes capability is specified here.

Peel and mechanical performance:
Confirm adhesive peel strength using an identified specimen width, angle, speed, substrate and conditioning procedure. Evaluate wear, lifting and film damage under the actual process conditions.

Optical and chemical performance:
Black appearance does not establish a light-transmission, reflectance or laser-protection rating. Chemical compatibility must be evaluated for the film, adhesive and exposed edges under the intended exposure conditions.

10. Comparison & Selection Guide

Black ESD PTFE film tape versus ordinary PTFE film tape:
Choose based on verified electrical requirements where static control matters. Color and material name are insufficient to establish ESD suitability.

PTFE film versus PTFE-coated fiberglass:
Consider film where a woven carrier or fabric texture is undesirable. Consider fiberglass reinforcement where its dimensional or mechanical characteristics suit the process. Compare actual model data rather than assuming one construction is always more durable.

Static-dissipative surface versus conductive adhesive:
A surface that dissipates charge does not necessarily conduct through the adhesive to the mounting substrate. Specify the required electrical path before selection.

Black film tape versus black-liner tape:
Choose black film tape when the working surface itself must be black. Choose a black-liner version when the requirement concerns the removable protective liner.

Self-wound versus liner-backed:
Select the roll format according to handling, converting and placement requirements. For ESD use, evaluate charging during unwinding or liner removal as part of process validation.

Thickness selection:
Assess flexibility, clearance, heat response and mechanical exposure together. Compare thickness values on the same measurement basis.

11. Technical Notes + FAQ

Technical notes:
Record the selected film grade, adhesive, dimensions, electrical test requirements and operating conditions in the approved specification. Do not use a general webpage value as a substitute for model-specific test data.

Q: Is every black PTFE tape anti-static?
A: No. Black color does not establish electrical performance. Select using the required test results.

Q: Does the tape contain fiberglass?
A: The specified film backing has no woven fiberglass reinforcement. This does not establish a cleanroom or zero-particle rating.

Q: Is the silicone adhesive conductive?
A: Conductive adhesive has not been established for this construction. Do not assume through-thickness conduction.

Q: What surface resistance should I request?
A: Provide the acceptance range and test method required by your application. The selected model must be evaluated against those requirements.

Q: Can the tape serve as a grounding connection?
A: Do not use the product name or surface resistance alone to establish grounding suitability. Evaluate the full installed electrical path.

Q: Can it provide laser shielding or certified light blocking?
A: No such performance is established here. Black appearance is not a laser-protection or optical attenuation specification.

Q: Can it operate at 300°C for 30 minutes?
A: That capability has not been established by the supplied enterprise data. Provide the actual temperature and duration for model review.

Q: Can it be supplied with a liner or as die-cut parts?
A: Submit the required format and drawing for confirmation of material, liner and converting compatibility.

Q: Will it remove without residue?
A: Removal depends on the substrate and service conditions. Evaluate the selected adhesive on the intended surface.
