1. Product Overview
Nomay Double-Sided PTFE Tape, also called double-coated PTFE tape or PTFE fiberglass mounting tape, uses a PTFE-coated woven fiberglass carrier with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on both faces.
The product joins two compatible components and normally remains inside the assembled joint. It is intended for applications such as gasket positioning, wear-pad attachment and equipment assembly where a reinforced, double-sided adhesive construction is required.
Both outer faces are adhesive. Unlike single-sided PTFE tape, this construction does not provide an exposed non-stick PTFE working face after normal installation.
Selection depends on both bonding materials, joint dimensions, temperature, exposure time and mechanical load.
2. Product Construction
The construction consists of:
- First bonding face: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- Internal carrier: PTFE-coated woven fiberglass cloth.
- Second bonding face: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- Temporary protective layer: Release liner arranged for winding, handling and installation.
The release liner separates and protects adhesive surfaces before use. Its material, release treatment and arrangement must be compatible with the silicone adhesive and the intended converting process.
Carrier thickness, the two adhesive-layer thicknesses and finished tape thickness are different measurements. Finished tape thickness excludes the removable liner unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Using silicone adhesive on both faces does not establish identical coating thickness or equal peel performance. Specify any requirement for matched or different side performance in the order.
3. Backing & Adhesive System
PTFE-coated fiberglass carrier:
The woven reinforcement supports handling and dimensional stability during installation. Its contribution to the joint depends on the cloth construction, coating and complete tape design.
The PTFE coating is inside the adhesive assembly. Its presence does not make the outward adhesive faces non-stick or establish a low-friction contact surface.
Silicone adhesive:
Each adhesive face bonds to a different component. Both interfaces must be selected for their actual surface material, finish, cleanliness and operating conditions.
A bond that performs well on one side can still fail at the other interface. Evaluate the complete assembly rather than relying on a single peel value.
Silicone adhesive is not automatically suitable for every plastic, rubber or coated surface. Where silicone transfer could affect subsequent painting, coating or bonding, include that requirement during selection.

For gaskets, position the tape so that it does not obstruct required openings or alter the intended compression arrangement. For wear pads, the pad remains the exposed contact component; the tape sits beneath it.
Trial the completed assembly under representative heat, load and cycle conditions. Inspect both interfaces for lifting, sliding or separation.
Store unused material with its liner protection intact, away from heat, sunlight and contamination, following the supplied storage and shelf-life instructions.

Temperature:
Confirm continuous temperature, peak temperature and exposure duration for the complete double-sided joint. Thermal survival of the carrier is not the same as adhesive holding performance under load.
A generic PTFE temperature range does not establish a loaded-joint rating. Do not interpret a material's maximum temperature as permission for continuous mounting service at that temperature.
Peel strength:
Specify results for both adhesive faces, including the tested substrate, specimen width, peel angle, test speed and conditioning. If both sides are tested against the same standard panel, record that basis explicitly.
Shear and holding performance:
Consider component weight, bonded area, load direction, temperature and duration. A peel result does not replace holding-power or creep information.
Surface compatibility:
Evaluate low-surface-energy materials, textured surfaces, coated parts and flexible components individually. Avoid assuming that greater pressure alone resolves a material mismatch.
Chemical exposure:
Cleaning fluids or process chemicals may reach the joint edges and affect the adhesive. Evaluate the complete assembly under its actual exposure conditions.
